Iona Preparatory High School Students Deliver Christmas Cheer, Holiday Gifts to Local Children with Disabilities

A group of Iona Preparatory’s high school students spent their day (December 20) spreading Christmas cheer during a visit to the Hawthorne Country Day School (HCDS), which provides academic and vocational skills to children with disabilities. Iona Prep students visited with elementary, middle, and high school students at the day school and provided Christmas gifts that the Iona Prep community collected and wrapped over the last few weeks. This was part of an ongoing relationship between the two schools that has spanned more than 35 years.

Virtual Christmas Pageants Shone Brightly at The Immaculate Conception School

This holiday season, The Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe, hosted a virtual Christmas Pageant for grades K-8th grade. The need to bring joy and cheer to students was greater than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Students in grades K through 2nd sang three hymns; 2nd through 5th sang three more; and 6th through 8th re-enacted the Nativity, reading the lines from the Gospel of Luke. 

Stepinac High School Alumnus Daniel P. Mahoney Gives Back Again with $1 Million Donation

Daniel P. Mahoney, a distinguished alumnus (Class of ’67) and long-time supporter of Stepinac High School, recently returned with his wife, Susan, to give back again to his alma mater that he credits for shaping his success as well as those of many other young men. 

Fifth Graders Program Dash Robots

Bronxville Elementary School fifth graders have been exploring line-based code and learning how to apply their knowledge of sequencing, loops, conditionals and functions to this new language. As part of a challenge in technology specialist Claire Hollocou’s class, the students programmed Dash robots. 

Olivia Cevasco Earns YoungArts National Award for Writing

Bronxville High School senior Olivia Cevasco has received a national honorable mention award in writing for her screenplay “First Lady Astronauts” in the prestigious 2022 YoungArts competition.

Bronxville Teachers Present Their Work at National, Regional Conferences

Bronxville High School teachers Denise Flood and Toby Gillen recently presented their work on foreign language curriculum and social-emotional learning at two virtual conferences. They were invited to share their best practices at the American Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages from Nov. 19-21, and the Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES’ Supporting the Whole Child Regional Conference on Dec. 2.
