Rags, Blues and All That Jazz

This live musical performance will take place in person at the Library in the Yeager Community Room. An exploration of these three styles of American music tracing their emergence and development between 1890-1930. With music by Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Thomas “Fats” Waller and others, this inspiring lecture recital combines virtuosity and musicality in equal measure. Presented by: Peter Muir is a versatile international pianist and vocalist whose approach is guided by a passionate belief in the power of music to transform the well-being of individuals and communities. Sew a Tote Bag
October 17 from 2 to 5pm
Learn to machine sew a colorful and unique tote bag that can be used in everyday life under the instruction of experienced sewers, Gwen Jackson and Doris Sutton of the Art C Obsession Studio. Adult Confident Beginner sewers are welcome. The student will learn the basics of how to use a sewing machine and will each receive a unique pre-cut kit with the materials to sew this versatile colorful bag. Due to time restraints, some sewing machine experience is helpful, but confident beginners are welcome to sign up for this class. Class size is limited. The library system supplies 6 sewing machines. For those with their own sewing machine in clean and well-working condition we can add 4 more students with a maximum of 10 students per day. There will be instruction of basic sewing techniques and care of the machine. Advance registration is needed: stop by or call the Adult Reference Desk, 914-337-7680 ext. 824 and sign up for ONE of the following dates October 17 from 2- 5 PM or Tuesday October 18, 2022, from 2 -5 PM.
