Hudson Compost Comes to Bronxville

Environmental change often begins with small, determined actions – and two high school friends are proving just how impactful those actions can be. Hudson Compost, founded by Hastings-on-Hudson locals Jude Joerger and Ben Wan, is transforming food waste into an opportunity to create a greener, more sustainable future – and now they’re coming to Bronxville.

Jude and Ben’s journey began in high school when they started Hudson Compost to address the lack of composting options in their community. Their shared passion for sustainability led them to create a service that simplifies composting for homes, apartments, and businesses.

Fast forward to today: Jude, a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ben, an alumnus of the University of Southern California Iovine and Young Academy, have turned their high school project into a thriving business. Hudson Compost now diverts over 400,000 pounds of food waste from landfills annually, cutting greenhouse gas emissions while fostering healthier soil solutions.

Members receive everything needed to start composting, with an animal-resistant bin for weekly pick-ups, a countertop bin, a how-to guide, and nutrient-rich compost returned upon request. Households can reduce waste by over 70%, as Hudson Compost accepts items like meat, bones, and paper towels – going beyond traditional composting.

Now serving 10 towns across Westchester County, Hudson Compost is thrilled to expand to Bronxville. New members can sign up for one month of free curbside composting through January 1st.
