Rep. Jamaal Bowman Launches Re-Election Campaign

Rep. Jamaal Bowman recently launched his re-election campaign to continue representing New York’s 16th Congressional District. Bowman’s announcement was made in a video, “Delivering for the District,” ahead of a campaign kickoff and canvassing launch event in Yonkers .

“I first ran for Congress because too many of our children, from the Bronx to Westchester, were dying of gun violence with too little attention and action,” Rep. Bowman says in the announcement video. “Career politicians and a broken status quo want to keep leaving behind the same communities, over and over again. But we stand up, we fight, and we win real progress. Let’s keep building and delivering together for the people.”

At the canvassing kickoff event, Rep. Bowman will be joined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Hastings-on-Hudson Mayor Niki Armacost, Mamaroneck Trustee Leilani Yizar-Reid, Tyler Hack of Sunrise Westchester, Nada Khader of WESPAC, Reverend Dr. Stephen Pogue, members of SEIU 1199, and local leaders from across the district. Following the event, Rep. Bowman and supporters will knock doors to kick off the campaign’s grassroots voter outreach.

In addition to the supporters at the event, Rep. Bowman’s re-election campaign is endorsed by: Rep. Yvette Clark, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Congressional Black Caucus PAC, Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC, State Senator Jamaal Bailey, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, NYC City Councilmember Kevin Riley, Hastings-on-Hudson Mayor Nicola Armacost, Hastings-on-Hudson Trustee Doug Alligood, Mamaroneck Trustee Leilani Yizar-Reid, Mamaroneck Trustee Manny Rawlings, New Rochelle City Councilmember-elect Shane Osinloye, Former Westchester County Legislator Damon Maher, SEIU 1199, National Nurses United, Working Families Party, Justice Democrats, Sunrise Movement, League of Conservation Voters, The Jewish Vote, Make the Road NY, Citizen Action of NY, and NY Progressive Action Network.

In just three years in Congress, Rep Bowman has established a record of delivering progressive results for NY-16. Rep. Bowman secured over $125 million in funding to the district through legislation, including $88 million for the Mamaroneck Flood Risk Management Project and $12 million for the New Rochelle LINC Project. Rep. Bowman also singlehandedly secured $25 million for community investments in local anti-gun violence, affordable housing, climate action, schools, workforce development, health care, and more.

In addition, Rep. Bowman was integral in passing President Biden’s signature legislative victories. As Chair of the Subcommittee on Energy, Rep. Bowman helped write the CHIPS and Science Act, and two of his bills on STEM education were included in its final passage. Rep. Bowman was also involved in negotiations to successfully pass the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan Safer Communities Act to combat gun violence. Rep. Bowman was also the sole author of vital legislation that passed the House, including a Congressional resolution condemning antisemitic and anti-Black conspiracy theories, and bipartisan legislation supporting veterans’ mental health care.
